# Testing divisiblity 2-9

**Testing Divisibility **2-9: If you’re a Banking or an SSC aspirant or is preparing for any other governmental and non-governmental exams, then it is must for you to learn divisibility at least between 2 and 9. The Quant section is generally considered the toughest one. But if you know some basic tricks like this one, helps you a lot in solving problems and saving precious time.

Know how testing divisibility can come handy.

### To Check Divisibility by 2

- If the last digit of a number is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 then the number is divisible by 2.

### To Check Divisibility by 3

- If the sum of digits of a number is divisible by 3 then the number is divisible by 3.

eg: 268789

2 + 6 + 8 + 7 + 8 + 9 = 40

The sum here is 40 which is not divisible by 3 so the number is not divisible by 3.

**Alternate method**

2 + 6 + 8 + 7 + 9

Remove all the digits divisible by 3 then add the remaining.

2 + 8 + 7

Here, 7 + 2 = 9 which is divisible by 3 .Leave these digit and check for remaining digits.

### To Check Divisibility by 4

- If the last 2 digits of a number is divisible by 4 then the number is divisible by 4.

### To Check Divisibility by 5

- If the last digit of a number is 0 or 5 then the number is divisible by 5.

### To Check Divisibility by 6

- If the number is divisible by 2 & 3 then the number is divisible by 6.

Since 2 & 3 are prime factor of 6

### To Check Divisibility by 7

- There are methods to check divisibility by 7 but these take much time while performing calculation so its better to check the divisibility just by following the simple division.

### To Check Divisibility by 8

- If the last 3 digits of a number is divisible by 8 then the number is divisible by 8.

### To Check Divisible by 9

- If the sum of digits of a number is evenly divisible by 9 then the number is divisible by 9.
